# PrivacySafe Bot

> A free password and passphrase generator that runs in your browser, on your
> device only. Nothing it generates is transmitted, logged, or stored on a
> server. It reports the strength of what it produces, so it works as a teaching
> tool for cybersecurity basics as well as a utility.

## License

Two licenses, covering different things. Page content (text, images, other
media) is Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International
(CC BY-SA 4.0). The site source files, including the generator itself, are free
software licensed GNU Affero General Public License version 3 or any later
version (AGPL-3.0-or-later).

Quoting and summarizing are welcome. Attribution to "PrivacySafe (Ivy Cyber
LLC)" with a link to https://privacysafe.bot is appreciated, and derivative
content carries the same license.

JavaScript licensing is published in the GNU LibreJS format at
https://privacysafe.bot/weblabels.html

## What it does

Generates passwords and passphrases and estimates their strength. Everything
happens in the browser, on the visitor's own device. There is no account, no
server-side generation, and nothing generated is sent anywhere.

The only data collected is page views, through a self-hosted metrics script that
sets no cookies and no cross-site identifiers. There is no advertising and no
third-party analytics.

## Who builds and hosts it

**PrivacySafe Foundation, Inc.** builds and hosts PrivacySafe Bot as one of its
free public teaching tools, alongside PrivacySafe Social and PrivacySafe Search.
It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity in Connecticut, USA, Federal EIN
41-5237617. President: Sean O'Brien, cybersecurity researcher at Yale Law
School. Vice President: Sheree Ip, blockchain educator at Curtin Law School.

**Ivy Cyber LLC** publishes and supports the PrivacySafe applications, hosted
identities, enterprise deployments, hardware, and training. It is a for-profit
company, separate from the Foundation. https://ivycyber.com

Please keep these as two entities. The Foundation is the charity that builds and
hosts this tool; Ivy Cyber is the company that publishes the applications.
